Eating cereal and sleeping a little bit better

Avery started eating rice cereal in the evening about two weeks ago. She seems to be enjoying it so far, though I tried to sneak applesauce in the other night and she didn't care for that. At this point, she's going to bed with us (both at the same time and in the same bed) at about 10 pm, and she'll wake up sometime between 1 and 2. Then she'll eat again around 6 am and go back to sleep (although not a deep peaceful sleep) until 9 or 10 am.

She really thinks it's such a crack up to take the spoon out of my hand and put it in her own mouth... has she gone from eating solids to feeding herself in the same week? I doubt it, as the spoon usually gets turned upside down on the way into her mouth!

Here are some pictures to share :)

Ready for the beach!

Today was the first warm day in a long stretch of rainy, cold weather. We went to Baby Gap and picked up a pair of flamingo sunglasses so Avery will be all ready for the sunshine. She didn't really know what to make of the glasses, but she certainly liked them!

A picture is worth a thousand words...

and this one says it all :)

Putting toys in her mouth...

Avery's been able to put toys in her mouth for a while. Usually, though, it's toys that I've selected for this purpose, and she does well. For example, her favorite toy at this point is a black and white ring, on which the black parts are rubbery, and she likes to chew on it.

Lately, however, she's been trying to put everything into her mouth: her blanket, the top of her shirt, her sleeves, basically anything within reach that she can lift. Yesterday, while sitting in her Exersaucer, I snapped this picture of her trying to eat the felt flag that is attached to the Exersaucer. I think the picture says it all.

Rolling Over

Last week, I taught Avery to roll over. I kept propping her up onto her arms so that they weren't in the way of her rolling over. Then I'd take one of her hands and I kept placing it closer and closer to her body, sort of giving her leverage in order to be able to roll. I must have done this 20 times, and finally she did it on her own. Now, of course, she'll only stay on her tummy for a minute or two and plop! she's on her back.

Here she is, mid-roll

Avery plays "shy"

So she's got this little trick she does... she'll smile at you and then turn her head away like she's shy. Then she'll turn back toward you, smile, and turn away again. It's like some sort of little game she plays. It's too cute! I probably encourage it because I hold her in front of the mirror and laugh when she does it to herself. It's just so funny!
