Since Elf on the Shelf ideas are floating around the internet like crazy, I thought I’d make a quick collage of photos from last year. This was really fun for my kids, but a lot of work for me! Even so, I am looking forward to doing it again this year. There is no way my kids would let me off the hook on this one ;)
Oh these are just fabulous. Glad you shared.
So many great ideas. Thank you for the book download!
Those are great ideas, but how do I get around not touching the elf. The kids will know I touched him to clean the sink and things like that. Still I have used a couple of your ideas, thanks.
In our house adults can touch the elf, but children’s fingers rub his magic off.
Ooh, I like that approach :)
We made a “magic” glove (red stretchy glove, decorated to Santa’s specs – Gold glitter, red poms, and green puff paint) that we can use to touch Dixie the elf. It keeps me from having to leave messes around my house! :)
That is BRILLIANT!!!
I love the idea of the elf teaching the little children to color on adults pictures — mustaches, etc. Nuts.
I suppose that was a criticism. I’m pretty sure my kids didn’t learn to color on adults’ pictures from this one experience. But ‘thanks’ for your comment.
What did you use to get your elfs hands to stay in the posed positions?
Hi Ashley, I just used a well-hidden straight pin :)
Love these ideas, they’re cute! Definitely using some of these. =) I “hacked” our Elf, Eddie, to make him hang, bend, and climb! (Wire, magnets, velcro.) It was super-easy! If you wanna check it out, I made a tutorial on my blog at: http://lifesolovely.com/2012/12/01/elf-on-the-shelf-mod-in-easy-steps/

Thanks Nicole, I’ll definitely check it out!
Just starting this year with this new (new to me) Elf on the Shelf tradition. My kids are already 5, 7, 9 and 11 but it is still so fun. I love all of your creative ideas but I especially love your photography and the way you captured it all. Such holiday whimsy. Thank you so much for sharing. Stoked I found your blog. Beautiful blog and images! mahalo, malia
Hi Malia! Thank you so much :) I have fun with our elf, too. It’s totally worth it to me to get a giggle out of my kids each morning :)
I’ll tell ya. I have 2 kids who REFUSE to get outta bed in the mornings for school. Having our elf around has them JUMPING outta bed each morn to see what mischief she’s been up to in the night. It’s awesome!
Mine too — no fun on the weekends!
These are adorable! And I absolutely love your advent calendar! Where did you get it?
